MILLER GROVE- The No. 23 Miller Grove Hornets hosted Fruitvale for their second in a pair of district matches this season. The Hornets won the first meeting between the two by a final score of 81-25 back on Dec. 18.

Miller Grove opened Tuesday’s match hoping to do the same thing, having a big first quarter in which they scored 21 points. Senior Kobe Robertson led the way, posting 10 points of his own in the frame. Fruitvale, as a team, were only able to score seven points.

The Hornets offense slowed down a bit in the second quarter, as no one player was able to make more than one basket in the frame. Fortunately Miller Grove was able to share the workload, and six players combined to score 13 points in the frame.

Fruitvale was still unable to find any consistent offense, scoring eight points in the quarter. Miller Grove added another five points to their lead, and went to the locker room ahead 34-15.

The Hornets opened the second half with another explosive quarter offensively, with Robertson once again leading the way. Robertson had eight points in the frame, once again outscoring Fruitvale by himself who had seven points in the quarter.

Miller Grove was able to get a combined 12 points from the rest of their team, and they entered the fourth quarter with a huge 54-22 lead.

The Hornets offense didn’t slow down any in the final frame; in fact, they had their highest scoring quarter of the night with 28 points. Fruitvale scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and Miller Grove walked away with a 82-30 win.

Robertson was the leading scorer, finishing with an impressive 27 points. Behind him was Isiah Billingsley who had 15 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Tanner Hensley and Landon Burnett each finished in double-digits as well, racking up 12 points and 10 points respectively.

Matt Brignon and Lexton Sly each had six points, while Jacob George had four points and Riley Hasten had two points.

Miller Grove returns to action Tuesday with a road game against Savoy. The varsity girls are set to begin at 6 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow.
