Sly’s long range shooting leads the way

MILLER GROVE- The Miller Grove Hornets hosted Fannindel Friday for one of their final home games of the season. Miller Grove entered the game with a 15-4 record and were ranked No. 21 in the state.

The Hornets wasted no time building a double-digit lead Friday, outscoring Fannindel 14-2 in the opening frame. Landon Burnett led the way for Miller Grove, posting six points in the quarter. Lexton Sly and Isiah Billingsley each provided one 3-pointer.

The second quarter was a very different story, with the two teams matching each other throughout the frame. Sly knocked down another 3-pointer for Miller Grove as the two teams went to the locker room with the Hornets leading 23-11.

Sly found another gear in the third quarter, hitting his third and fourth 3-pointers of the night. Kobe Robertson had a pair of baskets as well, and Miller Grove continued to add to their lead.

In the fourth quarter it was Robertson and Burnett who paced the way with four points each for the Hornets. The Miller Grove defense only allowed five points in the frame, as they walked away with the 47-26 win.

Sly was the leading scorer for the Hornets. He knocked down four 3-pointers for a total of 14 points in the victory. Also finishing in double-digits was Burnett who had 10 points. Robertson and Matt Brignon were right behind them with eight points and six points respectively.

Other scorers for the Hornets were Billingsley who had five points and Tanner Hensley who ended with two points.

Miller Grove returns to action Friday for their final regular season game, with a road match against Dodd City. Miller Grove won the first match between the two, knocking Dodd City out of the TABC rankings. The junior varsity boys are set to begin at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
