CUMBY—The Cumby Lady Trojans improved to 2-0 in district play Saturday with a 3-0 home victory over the Cooper Dogettes. This game would be highlighted by Neely Hammond throwing a no-hitter. The game would also see Cumby head coach Ashleigh Hinshaw earn a coaching win over the school she previously coached at.

The first inning wouldn’t see much action, as both teams went down in order. The second inning was mostly the same. Though the Lady Trojans earned a base runner when Erin Morgan walked, they still didn’t score, leaving a scoreless tie through the first two innings.

After the Dogettes were held scoreless in the top of the third inning, the Lady Trojans got the first hit of the game on an Ashlyn Hudson single. Soon after, the Lady Trojans scored when Kinslee Dowdle hit an RBI single, giving the Lady Trojans a 1-0 lead.

On the next at-bat, Hammond hit an RBI double, bringing Dowdle home and raising the score to 2-0.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Trojans added one more run in the fifth inning when Dowdle added another run, bringing the score to 3-0. That score would hold up for the rest of the game, as the Lady Trojans capped off a victory.

As a team, the Lady Trojans batted 5 for 25 (.200) from the plate. Dowdle, Hammond, Hudson, Morgan, and Harley Pence recorded one hit. Dowdle would score two runs, with Hudson adding one.

Hammond threw a no-hitter in the circle. Across seven innings, she recorded 15 strikeouts and only conceded four walks.

With this win, the Lady Trojans are now 2-0 in district and 4-1 overall. They resumed action Monday, traveling to Celeste to take on the Celeste Lady Blue Devils.
