Eagles split pair of games over the weekend

COMO-PICKTON - The Como -Pickton Eagles hosted Big Sandy Saturday for a non-district match. The Eagles entered the day as winners in four of their last six games.

Como-Pickton began the game with a lot of momentum, quickly building a 12-2 lead. The Eagles kept their foot on the gas, extending their lead to 41-12 late in the third quarter and 46-12 early in the fourth quarter. Big Sandy was never able to fight their way back into the game, and the Eagles won by a final score of 61-16.

Braden Miller was the leading scorer for the Eagles, finishing with a total of 19 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Cameron Ray and Jojo Mejia each also finished in double-digits, scoring 12 points and 11 points respectively. Eight of Ray’s 12 points came during the second half.

Cayon Thomas had eight points, while Dalton Morgan and Alex Perez each had four points in the win.

The Eagles also played Mount Vernon Friday on the road in a game that was tightly contested. The Eagles trailed a close game for a majority of the first half, but were able to lead 35-34 in the fourth quarter.

Mount Vernon took their lead back at 39-38 and extended it to 46-42 before running away with the game, winning by a final score of 60-47.

Miller was the leading scorer for the Eagles again, posting an impressive 21-point performance. Eighteen of his 21 points came in the first half.

Ray was the next leading scorer for Como-Pickton at seven points. Just behind him were Thomas and Rutledge who had six points and five points respectively.

Two other Eagles scored in the game, Mejia and Marquez. Mejia finished the game with four points while Marquez had three points.

Como-Pickton will return to action Monday, Dec. 28 with a road game at Celeste, before returning home on Tuesday to host Sulphur Bluff at 3:30 p.m.
