COMO-PICKTON— After having to suspend all practices and games for two weeks, the Como-Pickton Eagles are ready to return to action this Friday, with a home game against district-rival Rivercrest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles opened their season with a 17-0 win at home against Simms Bowie on Aug. 28. Senior running back Cameron Ray led the way for Como-Pickton’s offensive attack, finishing with 189 yards on 25 carries.

Defensively, Jackson Monk and Jhonathan Mejia led the team with 10 tackles each in the Eagles’ shutout victory. Four of Monk’s tackles resulted in a loss of yards, and he even had a fumble recovery.

Other defensive stand outs for the Eagles were Braden Miller. who had eight tackles, Gabe Garcia, seven tackles. and Tucker Rutledge. who had four total tackles and one tackle for loss.

The Eagles hope to pick up where they left off, as they prepare to face 1-2 Rivercrest. Rivercrest opened their season with a 32-31 loss against De Kalb before answering back in week two with a 40-6 win against Detroit.

This past Friday. Rivercrest traveled to Harleton where they lost 33-26. The matchup against Como-Pickton will be the first district game of the season for both teams.

The two teams faced each other in a late district game last season, in which Rivercrest walked away the winner, 34-14. Como-Pickton hope to avenge their loss from last season, while staying undefeated for this season as well.

After the district opener against Rivercrest, the Eagles will travel to Honey Grove on Friday, Sept. 25 and will then have their first bye of the season Friday, Oct. 2.
