COMO-PICKTON—Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s 2020 edition is out and predict the Como-Pickton Eagles finishing sixth in a very tough district. The Eagles were only able to pick up one district win a season ago.

District 6-2A saw three different teams win eight or more games last season, and it expected to be very competitive again in the 2020 season. The Como-Pickton Eagles, led by head coach Ronnie Green, went 4-7 a season ago and 1-3 in district play. The Eagles will be returning a good bit of their production from last year, including six starters on defense and seven on offense.

Como-Pickton made the playoffs last season in coach Green’s first year as the head coach and hopes to improve on playoff appearance this season. The Eagles will have quarterback Jonathan Mejia back under center for another season, hoping to improve on their 1-3 district campaign from a year ago.

Wolfe City is predicted to win the district this season. The Wolves were 8-3 in 2019 and went 3-1 in their district schedule. The Wolves will be led by quarterback Tony Jones, who threw for 1,018 yards last season and should get help from a JV team that went 10-0 last year.

Behind them is Bogata Rivercrest. Rivercrest had a great 11-2 season in 2019 and made it all the way to the regional semifinals. The Rebels lost a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball but have won an average of 10 games over the past four seasons.

The Honey Grove Warriors are picked to finish in third place. The Warriors were 10-2 a year ago but only return two starters on each side of the ball. With only eight players returning total, the Warriors will have to get help from some new talent.

In fourth place, DCTF has the Alba-Golden Panthers. The Panthers were a 3-7 team in 2019, but two of their wins came in district play. They are predicted to finish just ahead of Cooper, who also won three games last year, with two of them coming against district opponents.

Finally, predicted to finish seventh is the Celeste Blue Devils. The Blue Devils were just a 2-8 team a year ago but will be returning the most starters of any team in the district.

Quarterback Blake Weissert from Alba-Golden is the District 6-2A Preseason Offensive MVP pick. Weissert threw for 1,184 yards in 2019 and had 11 passing touchdowns. He is expected to have an even more impressive junior season.

The Preseason Defensive MVP pick is linebacker Logan Lankford from Wolfe City. Lankford led the team with 87 tackles a year ago.
