Eagles carry 3-8-1 record into the break

The Como-Pickton Eagles are currently 3-8-1 as they wait for the UIL to allow play to resume.

The Eagles opened their season Feb. 8 with a 17-11 victory over Cooper. The Eagles tallied an astonishing 22 hits in the game. Bruno Estrada and Joshua Timmons led the way with three hits each. Dalton Morgan, Jackson Monk and Hunter McPhereson each had two hits. The Eagles took their lead in the bottom of the second, where they had a seven-run inning after trailing 3-0. To add to their cushion, they added another six runs in the third inning.

Como-Pickton lost their next game to Quitman, 9-6, before tying a 5-5 game against Cooper. Trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles were able to string together four runs in the frame to tie things up. Christian Gilbreath led the way, going two for two and scoring a run.

The Eagles lost their next game to Winona, 11-3, before getting back in the win column Feb. 28, beating Alba-Golden, 10- 5. Morgan earned the win, allowing five runs, three of which were earned, in his four innings of work. The Eagles trailed 5-3 entering the top of the fifth, when they had a seven-run inning to lead them to the win. Andrew Rasgado and Kristopher Mayfield each had two hits in the game.

Como-Pickton’s most recent win came on March 6 when they beat Quitman 10-6. The Eagles entered the bottom of the sixth inning tied 6-6 before they put up four runs to give them the 10-6 win. Caemon Wilburn earned the win, striking out two batters in his one inning of work. Rasgado led the way offensively, going three for four and scoring three runs. Morgan and McPherson each had two hits, with Morgan driving in four runs.

Since then, the Eagles have lost their last three games, losing to Ore City, 10-5; Mount Vernon, 18-1; and Hawkins, 15-1.
