Hopkins County and the surrounding areas are usually fixtures in the Dixie Softball World Series. This year, Hopkins County will get to see the action up close and personal.
Hopkins County will host three of the nine 2019 Dixie Softball World Series Events, set for Aug. 2-7 at Coleman Park.
Officials with the Hopkins County Girls Softball Association said this is the first time in more than 20 years that the county has hosted a Dixie World Series.
Alexandria, Louisiana will host the Sweetees, Angels, Ponytails and Belles Dixie World Series events. Eufaula, Alabama will host the Darlings and Sweetees X-play World Series.
In addition to the three teams playing in the Angels X-play, Ponytails X-play and Debs division, Hopkins County will have a team representing Texas in the Dixie Softball Sweetees World Series.
ANGELS X-PLAY
Joining Hopkins County in the Angels X-Play World Series will be Franklin County as well as Montgomery American, Alabama; Okeechobee, Florida; West Carroll, Louisiana; Mendenhall, Mississippi; South Brunswick, North Carolina; Anor South Carolina; Collinwood, Tennessee and a team from Virginia.
Hopkins County will match up against Brunswick in their opener while Franklin County will take on West Carroll.
PONYTAILS X-PLAY
Hopkins County and Franklin County will both represent Texas in the Ponytails X-Play World Series.
Joining them will be Dothan, Alabama; Lake Placid, Florida; Winnsboro, Louisiana; Merchant Park, Mississippi; South Brunswick, North Carolina; Kershaw County American, South Carolina; Summertown, Tennessee and a team from Virginia.
Hopkins County will start the tournament against Winnsboro while Franklin County will take on Dothan.
DEBS
Hopkins County and Coldsprings will represent Texas in the Debs World Series and will open play in the tournament against each other.
Joining the teams will be Underwood, Alabama; West Pasco, Florida; Alexandria, Louisiana; Brunswick North, North Carolina; Georgetown County, South Carolina; Wayne County, Tennessee and a team from Virginia.
SWEETEES
Hopkins County goes into the Sweetees World Series as state champions. Joining them will be the hosts from Alexandria, Louisiana; Sabine Parish, Louisiana; Jones County National, Georgia; Burgaw, North Carolina and Gaston, South Carolina.
Hopkins County will open tournament play against Alexandria.
