Saltillo goes 28-7 on the season

SULPHUR BLUFF — The Saltillo Lady Lions finished their regular season Friday night with a 58-30 win on the road against Sulphur Bluff.

Saltillo finished the first quarter, leading 19-10 and never looked back. Saltillo added to their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Sulphur Bluff, 16-8, giving them a 35-18 at the half.

The second half was much of the same with Saltillo outscoring Sulphur Bluff, 19-7 in the third quarter and 14-5 in the fourth.

Anna Reeder led the team with an impressive 27-point performance. Chandler Bain and Jocelyn Ochoa each finished with 11 points. Other scorers for Saltillo were Allie Lane, 6, Brittney Peeples, 4, Julianna Giles, 3, Kristina Wade, 3, and Maddy Smith, 2.

“We finished the regular season with a good win on the road,” Coach Bill Giles said. “We are looking forward to the playoffs!”

Ofelia Cabrera led the team with 14 points. Other Lady Lions who scored were Raegan Speir, 9, Mattie Goldsmith, 8, Trinity White, 8, Yadhira Alonso, 7, Makensa Morris, 4, Briana Tawil, 3. They finished their season with an impressive record of 20-1.

“I’m really proud of our effort tonight and throughout the season,” Coach Dalton Herndon said. “I really enjoyed coaching this group of girls. Their future is bright.”

The varsity girls finish their season 28-7 and as district champions. Information about their first playoff game will be published in future editions of the News-Telegram.
