Burnett takes Newcomer of the Year
The All District awards for District 23-A were announced this week with multiple Miller Grove Hornets being acknowledged for their success this season.
The Most Valuable Player award went to Ector’s Kyrin Beach. Dodd City’s Ashton Balvin took Offensive Player of the Year while Franklin Reed of Ector and Aaron Munger of Dodd City shared the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Freshman Landon Burnett was the lone Hornet to take home a superlative award with the Newcomer of the Year. The freshman shares the award with Campbell’s Garrett Roberts.
Senior Kobe Robertson and junior Isaiah Billingsley were each named First Team All-District for Miller Grove. The pair helped lead the Hornets to the postseason, where they snuck past Avinger in the opening round by a final score of 59-58, before falling to No. 2 ranked Graford.
Junior Lexton Sly was also recognized, as he made the Second Team All District list. Sly played a big role in Miller Grove’s offense, being a reliable 3-point shooter.
Honorable Mention includes:
• Senior Matthew Brignon
• Junior Tanner Hensley
• Sophomore Riley Hasten
With just two seniors on the roster, the Hornets will hope to find themselves back in the postseason next year, with another successful season under their belt.
