CUMBY — The Cumby Trojans tasted defeat for the first time Friday and didn’t like it.

The Trojans lost at home to rival Wolfe City, 35-22, to drop to 1-2 on the season.

“We were up 16-7 at the half. Wolfe City scored, and then we scored to make it 22-13. Then the wheels came off, and we lost, 35-22,” said Tom Dracos, Cumby head football coach.

The Cumby squad came into the home game as the favorite but could not claim their third footbail victory of the season.

Cameron Scott paced the offense with 124 yards rushing and two scores. He also completed eight passes for 59 yards for one touchdown and two passes were-intercepted.

Jacob Demidio rushed nine times for 79 yards and caught one pass for 3 yards and a 2-point conversion.

Max Wippler caught two passes for 61 yards and one touchdown. Braden Porter snagged three passes for 22 yards.

Colby Lindsey accounted for 41 yards passing.

Lindsey sparked the defense with 15 total tackles.

Other Trojan standouts on defense were Jacob Groves with six tackles; Keagan McCollum, five tackles, and Zain Strickland turning in four stops.

“We had them down, and we just couldn’t finish them off. We made mistakes, and we didn’t execute well offensively. It cost us,” the coach said. “They made the plays they needed to and we didn’t answer. I think this loss will be good for us in the long run, but it’s not fun right now.”
