Girls team takes 11th at regionals

DALLAS- The Como-Pickton cross country teams traveled to the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex in Dallas Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles finished in 11th place as a team, with a total of 251 points. They were led by senior Lexi Busby who came in fifth place with a time of 13:10. Busby’s fifth place finish qualified her for ttate, making it her fourth consecutive year to do so.

“This the fourth year in a row for her to qualify for state,” coach Dee Evans said. “Let’s hope she brings home the gold!”

The next closest finisher for the Lady Eagles was Kara Tifft who came in 56th place with a time of 14:33. Behind her were Katie Tifft, Hannah Warren and Gladys Santivanez. Tifft’s time of 15:31 put her in 85th place, while Warren came in 89th place with a time of 15:44. Santivanez was just a few places behind her, coming in 93rd place with a time of 15:55.

Also competing for the Lady Eagles was Angelica Villegas. Villegas finished with a time of 16:37 and came in 107th place.

The varsity boys team ran as well, finishing in 13th place. They were led by Jared Statterfield and Koalton Burkhart. Statterfield ran a time of 21:08 while Burkhart finished at 21:37. They were followed by Kobie Wright, Karston Moore and Nathan Brown. Wright ran a time of 23:43, while Moore finished with a time of 24:23 and Brown had a time of 27:34.

“Please give these kids a huge shout for their hard work and determination throughout the season,” Evans added. “They worked extremely hard!”

Busby will be representing Como-Pickton Nov. 24 in Round Rock for the state meet.
