Boys take 1st, girls 2nd in home meet

Childress, Tran each win 1st place

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats golf team participated in the Sulphur Springs High School Fall Invitational Monday at the Sulphur Springs Country Club.

The Boys team took first place out of six teams, posting a combined total score of 304. Mount Pleasant finished in second, posting a score of 310. Behind them were Hallsville with 316, Longview with 348, Greenville with 351 and Pleasant Grove with 398.

Two Wildcats found themselves at the top of the individual leaderboards: Kip Childress took home first place, and Grant Moheksy finished in second place. Childress and Mohesky each had a final score of 69, which was decided by a scorecard playoff that Childress won.

Rylan Brewer and Caleb Kesting tied for 11th place individually, each posting a score of 83. Also placing for the Wildcats was Luke Dietze. Dietze posted a score of 95, which was good for 23rd place.

The Lady Cats finished in second place as a team, posting a score of 422. They trailed only Longview, who finished with a combined score of 384. Lindale took third place as a team with a score of 431.

Sulphur Springs’ Mariam Tran finished in first place individually, posting a score of 74. Only one other player was even within 10 shots of her, and it was Mount Pleasant’s Grelyn Goolsby, who finished with a score of 78.

MyKylie Meador finished in the top five for the Lady Cats as well, securing fifth place by five strokes and a score of 91. Mattye Schmidt and Makayla Pullen came in 14th and 15th places, respectively, with Schmidt scoring a 128 and Pullen scoring a 129.

Autumn Allen also placed for the Lady Cats. Allen shot a 153 and came in 18th place.
