Boys, girls teams take 1st at Avery Meet

Tarver wins 1st place

AVERY—Both the Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions took first places in their meets at Avery on Saturday. The Lady Lions edged out North Lamar and Paris by two points and three points, respectively.

For the Lions, Garrett Tarver took first place, finishing with a time of 17:12.8. Just behind him in second place was Gunner Tarver who finished with a time of 18:35.5. Coy Collins finished in third place for Saltillo.

Other notables for the Lions were Christian Trejo, sixth place; Colton McGill, 21st; Andrew Redburn, 22nd; and David Whitworth, 36th.

For the Lady Lions, Kristina Wade led the way, finishing in second place with a time of 13:48.8. Brianna Tawil finished 10th overall with a time of 14:27.5.

Reagan Speir and Yadhira Alonso finished in 13th and 14th place, respectively. Cali Morris finished in 17th place, and Mason Pipkin came in 26th.

The boys team won, finishing eight points ahead of Pleasant Grove who was the next closest. Pleasant Grove had 40 points, and Paris, who finished in third, had 66.

The Lady Lions squeaked out a narrow victory beating North Lamar by two points. The Lady Lions had 43 points, North Lamar had 45, and Paris had 46. The next closest was Avery with 82.
