Billingsley, Tarver take 1st and 2nd place

Miller Grove wins 4th straight title

ROUND ROCK - A number of local schools traveled to Round Rock Monday for the state cross country meet, including Miller Grove, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff. The Miller Grove boys team was looking for their fourth consecutive state championship.

Leading the way on the boys side was Isaiah Billingsley who finished in first place with a time of 15:22. Just behind him was Saltillo’s Garrett Tarver, who finished in second place with a time of 15:40.

Miller Grove had three other runners finish in the top 10 to help secure their team victory. In fourth place with a time of 15:49 was Kobe Roberson, in seventh place with a time of 16:24 was Lance Verner Davis and in 10th place with a time of 16:40 was Tanner Hensley.

The Saltillo Lions, who finished in second place as a team, had one other top 10 finisher, which was Gunner Tarver. Tarver ran a time of 16:37 which was good enough for a ninth place finish.

Other finishers were Miller Grove’s Riley Hasten who came in 11th place, Christian Gonzales of Sulphur Bluff who came in 19th place, Coy Collins of Saltillo finished in 21st place, Kavan Smith and Anthony Lester of Miller Grove came in 41st place and 43rd place respectively. Also all finishing inside the top 100 for Saltillo were Kolton McGill, Andrew Redburn, David Whitworth and Cristian Trejo. McGill finished in 81st place, with Redburn coming in 85th place. Whithworth came in 92nd place and Trejo finished in 96th place.

On the girls side of things it was Sulphur Bluff ’s Bailey Neal who led the way, finishing in third place with a time of 12:18. Just two seconds behind her was Miller Grove’s Jorja Bessonett who came in fourth place.

The Lady Hornets had two other very strong finishes, Alaira Serrano, whose time of 12:53, was good enough for a sixth place finish, and Jolee Fox who finished in seventh place with a time of 12:54.

The Miller Grove Lady Hornets finished in second place as a team, with their other runners being Jamilynn Hensley who came in 47th place, Lauren Bullard who finished in 69th place, and Kylee Saldana who came in 74th place.

The Saltillo Lady Lions took home seventh place as a team. They were led by Regan Speir and Kristina Wade who finished in 51st place and 60th place respectively. Saltillo also had Cali Morris (81st place), Brianna Tawil (84th place), Yadira Alonzo (91st place), Ryleigh Redar (106th place) and Chandler Bain who came in 109th place.
