SULPHUR BLUFF- The Sulphur Bluff Bears hosted Avery Friday, looking to get revenge for their Jan. 12 loss in which they fell by a final score of 56-54.

The Bears set the tone from the very beginning, doubling Avery’s scoring total in each of the first two quarters. After dropping 22 points in the first frame and 23 points in the second, the Bears took a 45-23 lead at the half.

The second half was much more competitive but the Bears were still able to outscore them in the third quarter, adding another six points to their lead. Avery was able to cut into the deficit in the final frame, but Sulphur Bluff walked away with an easy 72-48 win.

Montana Hurley was the leading scorer, tallying 31 points in an impressive outing. Brandon Branom and Dewitt Brookins each finished in double-digits as well, posting 13 points and 10 points respectively.

Other scorers for the Bears were Shane Johnson with nine points, Blake Hume with four points, Weston Shamburger with three points and Landin Dugnolle with two points.

The win improves the Bears' record to 15-10 on the season and 7-3 in district play. They are currently half a game behind Avery for second place in their district.

Sulphur Bluff hosts Saltillo Friday for their senior night and their regular season finale. The junior varsity boys are set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
