lose to Saltillo
SALTILLO — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers were defeated, 61-46 here Friday night.
Tanna Fielden was the leading scorer for the visitors with 16. Ashley Aguilar added 12; and Baylee Mathis scored 9 points and blocked seven shots.
Saltillo won the varsity boys game over North Hopkins, 54-43 despite 28 points from Brysen Gillespie.
Other Panthers scoring included: Caleb Wyatt, 5; Dylan Nguyen, 4; and Victor Rojo, Blane Hocutt and Kaden Ferrell scored 2 points each.
North Hopkins meets Trenton on Tuesday for their next action.
Saltillo girls JV
team posts victories
The Saltillo junior varsity Lady Lions won two games in the Rivercrest Classic held Saturday.
The Saltillo squad won 38-20 against Commerce with Raegan Speir pacing the squad with 12 points. Brianna Tawil added 6; Ofelia Cabrera scored 5; McKenna Gurley, Paisley Kastner and Trinity White tallied 4 each; and Biana Castro scored 2.
The Lady Lions went to 7-1 for the season with a 28-17 win over the host school Rivercrest.
In that win, Speir tossed in 20 points; Cabrera, Gurley, Castro and White scored 2 points each.
The Saltillo JV girls play at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Campbell.
Sulphur Bluff rips
Paris Warriors, 70-57
The Bears got 22 points from Brandon Branom, as they rolled over the Paris Warriors 70-57 in non-district varsity boys basketball action Friday.
Trayton South pumped in 16 for Sulphur Bluff. Other teammates scoring were: Montana Hurley with 13; Shane Johnson tallied 10; and Hunter Wallis contributed 9 points.

COMO — The Como Pickton girls went to 4-2 for the year after varsity basketball action.
The Lady Eagles beat the Campbell Lady Indians, 32-10 on Monday. Addison Monk led all scorers with 16. Mattison Buster added 8; Shelby Speed and Chloie Jalufka scored 2 each.
In Friday action, the Lady Eagles lost 36-26 against Quitman.
The Lady Eagles will host North Hopkins on Thursday, action starts at 4:30 p.m. with the B team game.
Saltillo wins two
of three vs. MG
The Saltillo junior high basketball teams won two of three in Monday action.
The Saltillo girls went to 5-0 for the season, dowing Miller Grove, 55-14.
Scorers for team were: Julianna Giles and Mattie Goldsmith, 8 each; Gabby Ross, 7; Allie Lane, 6; Amika Terry, 5; Calli Morris, Ryleigh Radar and Makensa Morris, 4; Maysen Pipken scored 3; and Yadhira Alonso scored 2 points.
Miller Grove won the boys B team game, 25-22.
Scorers for Saltillo included: Jacob Sexton and Ethan White, 6 each; Beckham Hoover, 5; Kaden McGill, 3; and Landon Gilbreath with 2 points.
Saltillo edged Miller Grove, 27-25, in the A team game, thanks to balanced scoring.
Caden McGill, Gunner Tarver and Colby McCoy scored 6 each; Noah Emerson and David Whitworth each scored 4; and Coy Collins tossed in 2.
The teams play Thursday, Jan. 10, at Yantis with both boys and girls in action.
The B team games starts at 5 p.m. and is followed by A team.
