All-District awards announced for 8-5A

Carrillo named 1st team

The All-District awards for district 8-5A were announced recently, and a number of Sulphur Springs Wildcats were awarded for their strong play this season.

Senior linebacker Ryan Carrillo was the lone Wildcat to be named first team All-District. Carrillo led the Wildcats defense, finishing with a team-high 74 tackles, averaging over 12 tackles a game. With 44 solo tackles and 30 assisted tackles, Carrillo was the anchor of the Sulphur Springs defense this season.

Offensively the Wildcats had a number of players who made the second team All-District list, starting with senior quarterback Kaden Wallace. Wallace threw for 900 yards while completing 63% of his passes this season, throwing for three touchdowns while picking up another three touchdowns rushing.

Senior running back Caden Davis was also a member of the second team All-District, averaging over 100 rushing yards per game this season. On 126 attempts Davis finished with 650 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and also finding the end zone eight times.

Junior tight end Carson Fenton and senior tackle Somjai Pryor were also named second team All-District helping lead a Wildcats offense that scored 21 points or more in each of their final four games.

Defensively senior defensive end D’Andre Peoples was the only Wildcat to be named second team All-District. Peoples had a pair of tackles for losses this season, while also consistently putting pressure on opposing teams quarterbacks.

The Wildcats had a number of players who were given honorable mentions honors, including:

• Sophomore wide receiver CJ Williams

• Senior offensive lineman Raydon McCormack

• Senior offensive guard Alfredo Olavide

• Sophomore defensive tackle Nick Castillo

• Senior outside linebacker Landry Meskimen

• Senior outside linebacker Cameron Hargrave

• Senior cornerback Kaden Eaton

• Junior kicker Josh Tavera

Sulphur Springs also had a number of players who were named Academic All State, including:

• Wiley Bennett, second team

• Alfredo Olavide, second team

• Koben Wiley, second team

• Landry Meskimen, honorable mention

• Caden Davis, honorable mention

• Raydon McCormack, honorable mention

• Langston Bridges, honorable mention
