All-District awards announced

Mathis takes top Offense Player

The All-District volleyball awards for District 18-2A were recently announced, with a number of country athletes being awarded.

North Hopkins’ Raylee Mathis was named Offensive Player of the Year, after leading the Lady Panthers to the playoffs.

Defensive Player of the Year was shared between Cumby’s Neely Hammond and Miller Grove’s Lainey Burnett. Both Hammond and Burnett played a big role in helping their teams reach the playoffs.

Miller Grove’s Lauren Bullard was honored with Setter of the Year while Como-Pickton’s Addison Monk was named Newcomer of the Year.

Libero of the Year was also shared between two players, Abigail Whaley of North Hopkins and Cumby’s Rylee Krotky.

Coach of the Year went to Miller Grove’s Ana Billingsley. Miller Grove had a very strong season, reaching the regional finals round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

A number of local athletes were named First Team All-District, including:

• Chloe Romero, Como-Pickton

• Erin Morgan, Cumby

• Ashlyn Hudson, Cumby

• Harli Watson, Miller Grove

• Kortni Ferrell, North Hopkins

There were a number of Hopkins County athletes on that were named Second Team All-District as well, including

• Lexi Busby, Como-Pickton

• Azlyn Hornsby, Cumby

• Heather McCraw, Cumby

• Selene Leon, North Hopkins

The Honorable Mentions include:

• Mattison Buster and Faith Watkins, Como-Pickton

• Tatum White and Savannah Kurn, Cumby

• Jaylah Roberson, Miller Grove

• Jacki Perez, Makayla Buchanan, Molly Wiser, Natalie Perry and Matti Pogue, North Hopkins
