The East Texas Junior Golf Tour enters its home stretch, and a number of Hopkins County golfers have an opportunity to win the tour’s final event of the season.

Prior to the East Texas Junior Golf Tour Championship, the tour completed its final regular season event Monday at Daingerfield Country Club.

Sulphur Springs’ Mariam Tran picked up her second consecutive tour victory in as many events, carding a 78 to win the high school girls division by five shots over Hannah McKinney of Hughes Springs. Katie Hart of Mount Pleasant finished third and Mailey Bynum of Pittsburg placed fourth.

Also winning titles at Daingerfield were James Walker of Hughes Springs (high school boys), Hogan Spearman of Pittsburg (junior high boys) and L.J. Vance of Cookville (11 and under).

The ETJGT Tour Championship will take place Thursday and Friday, July 18-19 at Mount Pleasant Country Club. The 36-hole event is by invite only and the top 21 golfers in each division advance to the final tournament.

The tour championship allows golfers to use caddies.

“To earn an invite and get a chance to use caddies is a real treat and is a lot of fun for the junior golfers,” said ETJGT founder Matt Garrett.

A total of four Hopkins County golfers advanced to this year’s tour championship.

In the 11 and under division, Isaac Stanley and Tatum Tran, both of Sulphur Springs, advanced to the final event.

Also advancing in the division are Abbot Harbour of Cookville, Kylee Strickland of Mount Pleasant and Charlie Yantis of Pittsburg.

Mariam Tran of Sulphur Springs advanced in the high school girls division.

Joining Tran in the tour championships will be Mason Garrett, Katie Hart and Reese Ball of Mount Pleasant and Amie Holt of Cooper.

Advancing to the tour championship in the high school boys division is Grant Mohesky of Sulphur Springs.

Also advancing are Matthew Peterson, Jonathan Chitsey, Holden Hester, Hudson Dykes, Brady Sisk, Jackson Stone, Kade Strickland and Caleb Ball of Mount Pleasant; James Walker of Hughes Springs; Cole Turner and Alex Calicott of Redwater; Carson Bolin of Mount Vernon; Glen Holt of Cooper; Pryce Parker and Tristan Davis of Pittsburg; Austin McKenzie of Gilmer; Tristan Davis and Wade Yantis of Pittsburg; Tanner Story of Blossom and Shawn Gunderson of Texarkana.

Advancing in the junior high boys division are Drew Marshall, Dillon Clifton and Hogan Spearman of Pittsburg and Logan Cox of Longview.

“I would like to extend a special thanks to Roy Stinson for getting the Mount Pleasant Country Club set up for the tour championship and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce who again furnished all the water for the golfers and caddies,” Garrett said. “Also, I would like to thank all our tour sponsors which provide the awards and gifts that we give to the golfers. Our community is truly the best at supporting our youth and growing the game of golf.”
