Funeral services for Truman Wilkerson, 87, of Denton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Kersey officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilkerson passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 in Denton.

Truman was born June 26, 1933 in Era, Texas to James Roy and Mary Ruby (McKinney) Wilkerson. He was raised in Valley View and graduated from high school there, where he lettered in football and baseball and was a member of the FFA. As a member of the baseball team, he received the Sportsmanship Award from the Babe Ruth Foundation.

Mr. Wilkerson married Clydene Roane on May 30, 1952 in Valley View. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years, stationed at Lackland AFB (Texas), Miho AFB (Japan), Kelly AFB (Texas) and George AFB (California). Following his military service, Mr. Wilkerson worked for Collins Radio, Rockwell (Richardson, El Paso, and Mexico), AMPEX (Colorado Springs), PM Circuits (Irving) and Price Ford (Sulphur Springs). He loved fishing and enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Wilkerson was a member of First Baptist Church of Valley View and First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs.

Survivors include: wife Clydene Roane Wilkerson of Denton; son and daughter-in-law Alan and Mary G. Wilkerson of Garland; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Mary Jean Wilkerson of Nevada; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Sharon Wilkerson of Houston; grandchildren Scott Wilkerson (Kristie), Jennifer Purdom (Bryce), Carolyn Ellis (David), Kathleen Wilkerson, Kristen Plemel (Jeremy), Ashley Wilkerson and Chase Wilkerson (Shawna); 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers Royce, Milton and Elton Wilkerson.

Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, James and Curtis Wilkerson.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Valley View, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Valley View Cemetery Association, First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, or a charity of one’s choosing.
