Funeral services for Jimmie Lurleene Harrison, 96, of the East Caney Community will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2019 at East Caney Baptist Church with Pastor Lavell Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow at East Caney Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrison passed away Dec. 16, 2019 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 15, 1923 in the East Caney Community, the daughter of Willie Williams Sr. and Inez Askew Williams. She married L. V. (Son) Harrison Sr. and was married for over 60 years. A retired teacher, Mrs. Harrison completed her elementary education in East Caney and graduated Douglas High School at 16 years of age in 1939 as Valedictorian. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Jarvis Christian College with a double major in English and French. For over 40 years, she was an educator in the Sulphur Springs ISD. Mrs. Harrison also was the girl’s high school basketball coach until the closing of Douglas High School. She completed her career in 1983 from her beloved Lamar Elementary School.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Harrison Cooper and Jimmy Lynn Harrison both of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Kelvin Harrison, Ketena Cooper, Keitha Hall, Ryan Harrison, Tracy Brown, Daniel Cooper and Lewis Harrison III; 19 great-great grandchildren; five great-great-great grandchildren; one sister, Reba Mae Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, L. V. (Van) Harrison Jr.; brother, Ruben Williams; sisters, Wilena Oliver Odon and Nancy Burrell Harrison; and grandchild David Cooper.
