Funeral service for Herb Thomas, 85, of Cumby will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Ronald Davis officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Miller Grove Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
Mr. Thomas passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020 at Senior Suites Care and Rehab.
Herbert Dale Sr. was born Oct. 7, 1934 in Honey Grove Texas to William and Hattie Thomas. He married Maxine Thomas Feb. 27, 1954 in Rockwall, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2017. Herb was a warehouse superintendent at Specialty Container for 42 years. He was a Past Master Mason with R.C. Buckner Masonic Lodge and attended the Cumby Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and a pilot. Herbert proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Herb was a member of Miller Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Brian Thomas and wife Leanne of Cumby; daughter, Karen Sewell and husband Courtland of Klondike; grandchildren, Andrea Case, Gregory Reed, Holly Cope, Cody Thomas, Austin Thomas, Tanner Laseter, J.T. Manes, Susan Whiteley, James Riddle, Holly Thomas and Heather Thomas; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Herbert Dale Thomas Jr.; daughter, Darlene Ackerman; and 20 brothers and sisters.
