Frances Goldsmith

Frances Goldsmith was born June 8, 1936 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

She passed away Jan. 18, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving, kind, fun, smart, sweet and gracious wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Frances attended Sulphur Springs High School and East Texas State University. She worked as a production seamstress at H.D. Lee Company, exceeding the standard on the production line. She served as the union organizer and secretary for the United Garment Workers of America.

Shortly after her eldest child came along, she devoted her time and energy to being an excellent wife and mother. Taking care of her children, and many others who were not her own, was at the heart of everything she did. She loved the children she cared for, and she developed strong bonds with them and their parents. She was an extremely talented seamstress, an amazing cook and had a phenomenal green thumb. She very often shared her gifts with family, friends and her community.

Frances was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, volunteering many hours feeding the church youth group, sewing covers for the bibles presented to third graders and attending Sunday School and Sunday services.

The onset of major health challenges did not stop her from serving others. She continued to sew for the church and make meals for friends in need, always maintaining a positive attitude and outlook on life. Frances relied on her faith and the love of her family to get her through.

She is preceded in death by two infant sons, Tony Milton Goldsmith and Baby Boy Goldsmith; sister Mary Jones; half-sister Laura Kenemore; half-brother Harvey Jack Kenemore; and granddaughter Morgan Mae Brown.

Survivors include her loving, devoted husband of 68 years, James Goldsmith; daughters, Emily Whitten (husband, Billy), Amy Thomas and Jamie Brown (husband, Eric); grandchildren, Curtis (fiancé Abigail), Blake (fiancé Ariel), Hannah (husband, Dale), Taylor, Parker and Benjamin; and great-grandchildren, Brock and Paisley; sister Tommie Raines of Sulphur Springs, Texas; sistersin-law Mary Grandstaff, Barbara McKinnerney (husband, Don), and Joyce Kenemore. Frances also had numerous nieces and nephews whom she absolutely adored.

The family would like to thank the medical and support staff at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-San Marcos for their compassionate care, especially the emergency room and ICU staff.

A Private Service for the family will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. Others may join the service through streaming online. A private link will be available on the Pennington Funeral Home website next week.
