Art Romanat (left) with the local VFW Post 8563 paid a visit to Sulphur Springs High School Thursday afternoon to recognize senior Brandon Hodges (center) for placing second at the district level of the Voice of Democracy speech contest. Hodges received a plaque commemorating the honor and a check for $750. He wrote and recorded a speech on the topic “What Makes America Great.” He is a student in Gail Herman’s Creative and Expository Writing class. Also pictured is Hodges’ mother, Shelley Hodges.
