MILLER GROVE—Miller Grove Volunteer Fire Department (MGVFD) is welcoming a new 5-ton truck with monetary assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service (TFS) grants and the hard work of the Miller Grove Independent School District’s Future Farmers of America club.

The MGVFD picked up the truck on Aug. 27. The grant from TFS also included $20,000 to equip it with fire suppression, according to the MGVFD.

MGISD’s FFA has been making updates to the truck to convert it into a fire truck, according to the FFA.

As a way to thank the FFA for their help, the MGVFD helped to put on a demonstration on proper machine shop safety as well as the use of fire extinguishers, according to MGVFD chief Ray Sparks.

“They provided an amazing shock and awe presentation. We take your child’s safety serious[ly],” shop teacher Jeff Gatlin said.

“This is a valuable addition to our station. We look forward to using this equipment in our community for years to come,” the VFD said in a Facebook post.
