Turkey Trot 5k is a success despite weather

Despite chilly and rainy Thanksgiving day conditions, over 100 runners took to the streets of downtown Sulphur Springs for the 9th annual Turkey Trot 5k.

With a blazing fast pace of 15:23, Cedar Hill resident Jeff Ball took first place overall. Landon Thornton, Sulphur Springs native, took second with a pace of 15:29 and won the 14-19 age division. Third overall was Price Griggs with a time of 19:10.

Winners of the masters division (35-40 age division) were Joey and Tracey Crouch, with times of 20:07 and 23:07, respectively.

Chris Pearson took first in the 60-69 age division with a time of 23:15. Taking first in the 0-14 age division were Laney Hurst with a time of 22:55 and Christian Gonzales with a time of 18:45.

Other first place in age group winners were: Josh Dunn (20:33), Randy White (21:14), Ellie Gomez (23:43), Tricia Wilson (23:59), Jolene Carpenter (24:26), John Burnside (25:60) and Liz Allen (27:20).

Sponsor Crossfit Sulphur Springs said the event was “cold and wet but so much fun.” A portion of proceeds from the event benefit local foster families, according to the business.
