County dispatch operators received an anonymous 911 text at 9:53 p.m. Thursday reading, “Help me” and heard two individuals arguing when they called the number. Deputies were dispatched at 10 p.m. to a location on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 120, where they located a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder.

Reports read that Michael Ross Jackson, 50, of Goldwater, Miss. seemed surprised by the presence of law enforcement. He reportedly advised he was arguing with his female passenger, and they fight all the time because she drinks. Deputies observed Jackson talking over them as they conducted the investigation. The female passenger advised the disturbance had only been verbal.

Jackson also reportedly admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle when deputies asked if there were any illegal substances present and advised where the substance was located. Deputies reportedly located a small amount of marijuana.

While retrieving Jackson’s identification from the vehicle, deputies also reportedly located a blue cut straw with a crystal-like substance inside, as well as a clear container with more of the crystal-like substance. Jackson reportedly stated several times that the situation was going from bad to worse and told deputies to place him in the patrol unit.

Deputies stated in the arrest report they believed Jackson’s behavior was due to his being under the influence of methamphetamine. He was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County jail for booking on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. The suspected methamphetamine field-tested positive and weighed 0.95 grams.

Jackson’s bond was set at $5,000, and he remained in custody as of press time Friday.

The vehicle was impounded, and the female passenger was given a courtesy ride to a Sulphur Springs motel.
