Election

Body

Adam Teer has announced his candidacy for the May 6 Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees election.

Teer sees being an active part of the leadership of SSISD as an “exciting and humbling” opportunity for him to serve the community and the administrators and educators in the district.

“I believe that I can offer a perspective rooted in 'good common sense’ and one that prioritizes the education of the kids in our school district. I’m a product of SSISD and I value that heritage. Because of that heritage, I understand what a good school district we have been historically – but now as a dad raising four children in SSISD, from primary schools to the high school, I understand what a wonderful job our district is doing currently.”

Teer and his wife of 17 years, Stephanie Teer, have four children, Hannah, a 10th grader; Eli, a seventh grader; CJ a third grader; and Joe, a kindergartener.

“I’m excited to help shape the vision of our district leadership and help take our district to new levels of excellence. I also look at this opportunity as a way to give back to a district I care about so deeply, and as an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to the teachers, coaches, administrators that helped shape me into the person I’ve become. I am forever grateful for the lessons they taught me, the example they set for me, the love they showed me, and the seemingly endless amounts of grace and patience they extended to me,” Teer said.

In addition to being a member of the SSHS Class of 2021, Teer went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Human Communication from Abilene Christian University.

He moved back to Sulphur Springs in 2011, and considers himself fortunate to hold a variety of leadership positions in both his personal and professional life. Teer currently serves on the leadership team at Seymore Church of Christ, is a member of the Sulphur Springs Lions Club, volunteers with Lake Country CASA, the Sulphur Springs Symphony League, and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Professionally, Teer is the general manager of the Clarion Pointe hotel in Sulphur Springs, serves as the Area Operations Manager for Helm Hotels Group in Sulphur Springs, and oversees Choice branded hotels in the ownership portfolio.

Teer said his goal in seeking a position on the school board is, initially, to support SSISD faculty and staff.

“I’d love to hear their concerns about our district and, then, spend my time attempting to address those concerns as best I can. I’m a believer in open lines of communication and I believe that everyone wins when ideas, concerns, and praise can be communicated effectively. I was born and raised a teacher’s son (and a great nephew to two teachers and a cousin to two teachers) so I am as big of a supporter of our teachers as you’ll find,” Tear said.
