A Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputy late Tuesday stopped a 2017 Chevrolet 3500 that he reported was pulling a white livestock trailer with a license plate that was missing the first digit.

Another deputy who had arrived on scene allegedly noticed the driver’s, a 47-year-old Sulphur Springs man, hands were shaking “as if he were nervous” when asked for his identification. The deputy reported the man was asked to get out of the truck.

A consent search of the truck was allegedly denied, after which a K-9 unit was called in. The dog gave a positive alert, according to the report.

During the course of a probable cause search, deputies allege they “located a loose crystal like substance in the driver side door suspected to be methamphetamine. Deputies located a piece of a clear baggie of the kind commonly used to package narcotics underneath the passenger seat,” the report read.

The substance seized allegedly field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 0.185 grams, according to the report.

The man was placed into custody on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than a gram. The truck and trailer, which allegedly contained livestock, were transported to the man’s CR 4592 address.
