Sulphur Springs man arrested by FBI on Main St.

This morning at approximately 5:41 a.m., Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Matthew Lavon Payne, 42, of Sulphur Springs on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm at the EZ-Mart located at 328 Main St. 

FBI and EZ-Mart both confirmed the FBI’s presence at the store, but would not discuss further the details of the arrest. 

Payne was booked into HCSO at approximately 7:02 a.m. and his 2019 Chevy High County was impounded, according to reports. He remains in jail and is not bond eligible, according to records. 

Payne was transferred to a federal facility on Wednesday, according to records.
