Rosa Alicia Macias-Ortiz, 39, of Sulphur Springs was arrested by officers of the Sulphur Springs Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit during a pedestrian stop at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Ardis Street on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

SCU officers reportedly observed the woman walking on the wrong side of the roadway at the location. She reportedly showed signs of nervousness during contact with officers and allegedly had a bulge near her waistband.

When questioned about the bulge, Macias-Ortiz reportedly removed a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine from her pocket. During questioning, she reportedly admitted to smoking methamphetamine and removed a plastic bag containing a white crystal substance believe to be methamphetamine from her pocket.

The location of the arrest was less than 1,000 feet from Pacific Park, and the possession charge was enhanced due to the drug-free zone.

Bond was set at $10,000, and Macias-Ortiz remained in custody as of press time Friday, according to reports.
