Six of seven county schools report COVID-19 exposure

As of Thursday, Aug. 27, five of seven Hopkins County schools are either reporting COVID-19 cases or exposure within their schools, according to releases from the schools. All schools are still holding in-person classes. 

Como-Pickton CISD reported Thursday morning that three students had confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. This is in addition to the one case CPCISD reported on Monday, according to a release. One of the CPCISD students was already in quarantine, and school staff contacted parents of students who they believe came into close contact with the other students, a release by superintendent Dr. Greg Bower stated. 

Cumby ISD reported Aug. 20 that two students tested positive for COVID-19. This is in addition to a student who tested positive on Aug. 11, according to a release. The district has contacted parents of students who they believe came in close contact with the student, according to the release.    

Saltillo ISD reported on Wednesday evening they had a confirmed COVID-19 student case on campus, according to a release. In addition, on Aug. 13 an employee tested positive for the virus, another release stated. The district has contacted parents of students who they believe came in close contact with the student, according to the release.    

Miller Grove ISD reported they had one case of a student with COVID-19 who quarantined, fully recovered, and has returned to school. Currently, the school has two students and one faculty member self-isolating, according to superintendent Steve Johnson. 

Sulphur Bluff ISD reported a case of COVID-19 via their school website on Aug. 27. The school clarified this was a confirmation of a case they received late on Aug. 26 of a student who was last on campus Aug. 24. This is in addition to a previous case reported Aug. 21. The district has contacted parents of students who they believe came in close contact with the student, according to the release. 

Sulphur Springs ISD reported five staff members tested positive for COVID-19 as of Aug. 14, according to Assistant Superintendent Josh Williams. SSISD's website does not list any further active COVID-19 cases. 

North Hopkins ISD- At this time, North Hopkins ISD is not reporting any active COVID-19 cases or exposure.
