Annual photography contest sign-up underway

Body

The Sulphur Springs downtown area will again be the meeting space of local photographers for the annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, a contest that last yeargrew worldwide to more than 24,000 amateur and professional picture-takers.

The local Photowalk, now in its eighth year and sponsored by the Sulphur Springs Downtown Business Alliance, encourages area photographers of all skill levels to share their art and exploring photography for a few hours.

The DBA will be inviting experienced photographers as Walk Leaders who will share their experience with the participants to help them develop their creative eyes and skills, including composition, lighting and other details. Last year’s Walk Leaders were local professional photographer Isabel Reyna and Leesa Toliver, both of whom were past participants in the Photowalk.

Participation is free, but registration is requested, though not necessary. Those wanting a chance to enter into any of the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk contests must register online prior to the event at https://worldwidephotowalk.com. A professional camera is not required, as cell phone photos are accepted for the contests.

Everyone will have the opportunity to win prizes both at the local level and through Scott Kelby’s Photowalk organization.

Local participants will have their work recognized and prizes given out at a reception to be announced at a later date.

Through the Worldwide Photowalk website, Walk Leaders will upload the registered local winners’ photos that will then be reviewed by Scott Kelby. He will chose one Grand Prize Winner and 10 finalists. There is also a mobile phone photo contest. Prizes for these contests include lens kits, printers, gift cards, apps and camera accessories.

Walk Leaders and photographers will meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at Whimsy Boutique & Wine Bar, 300 Connally St. in Sulphur Springs. The Photowalk
