Reginald Dwayne Shackelford, a 54-year-old Arlington man, was allegedly found to be sitting in a white Cadillac stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 30 eastbound at mile marker 140 late Wednesday night, Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Deputy J. Wilkerson’s report indicated. The deputy reported he was checking on a stalled vehicle that had been reported in the righthand lane at mile marker 135.

When Wilkerson approached the man, he reported seeing Shackelford holding an open alcoholic beverage and “observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting” from the car. The deputy further reported Shackleford had slurred speech, “as if he were intoxicated.”

Wilkerson asked Shackleford to hand him his drink and get out of the car, the report reads; however, while Shackleford is reported to have handed Wilkerson the possible alcohol he was holding, he was then reported to drive away.

After a short, high speed pursuit down I-30, Shackleford reportedly took the exit ramp onto County Line Road and headed south. According to the report, Shackleford stopped in the 400 block of County Line Road.

When Wilkerson again asked Shackleford to get out of the car, the report read, the man complied and was taken into custody.

Wilkerson stated he could smell alcohol on the man, but during an incident search of the Cadillac, he alleges not finding any contraband.

Shackleford is reported to have refused sobriety tests; however, he did consent to a blood draw during the book-in process at Hopkins County Jail, the report reads. Blood alcohol level was not provided in the report.

Schackleford was arrested on a felony charge of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and one charge of driving while intoxicated, second offense, with an open container. Bond was set at $10,000 on the evading charge and $5,000 on the DWI charge.
