The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association are investigating a theft of cattle that occurred in Hopkins County.

Eleven heifers were taken from a ranch on I-30 West of Sulphur Springs this past weekend, according to Sheriff Lewis Tatum. The theft occurred sometime between Friday, Aug. 14 in the evening hours and Sunday, Aug. 16 in the evening hours, HCSO stated.

Anyone with information about the theft should contact Lake County Crime Stoppers at 903-885-2020, HCSO said. Reward money is available and tips are always anonymous, they stated.

"It's just terrible to take a man's livestock," Tatum said. "That's his whole livelihood."

The Winnsboro Livestock and Dairy Auction recently experienced two different instances of livestock theft on July 30, according to the TSCRA.

UPDATE: As of Friday at noon, HCSO and TSCRA have not been able to locate the cattle.
