Even though the election is nine months away, two of the four Hopkins County commissioners and Sheriff Lewis Tatum announced Monday they will be running for re-election in 2020.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Wade Bartley will run for a third term.

“It’s been an honor to serve Hopkins County over the last six years, and I want to continue,” Bartley said. “We’ve made a lot of progress in Hopkins County. We’ve built the Hopkins County Law Enforcement Center and the courthouse annex. We’ve added to the county’s general revenue. The economy here in Hopkins County is great.

Hopkins County is a popular place, and people want to be here.”

Precinct 1 Commissioner Mickey Barker will seek a second term.

“It’s been an honor to serve the last 2 ½ years, and I’d like the privilege of continuing to serve the citizens,” Barker said. “I’m proud to have been a part of helping Hopkins County. There’s been a lot of growth over the last two or three years. As a body, we always keep the citizens of Hopkins County in mind when making decisions, and we’re seeing more businesses and people move into Hopkins County.”

Hopkins County Sheriff Lewis Tatum said he’s excited about running for office again. He has been a part of the sheriff’s office for more than 20 years and hopes to continue to serve the citizens during a second term.

“I’m honored to work with the [commissioners] court and the people at the sheriff’s office. I’m humbled by the staff I have and how hard they work. They go above and beyond to help me with all the ideas I come up with. I want to continue the trustee program and keep the crime rate low and business moving so Hopkins County will continue to be a wonderful place to raise a family,” Tatum said.
