Hopkins County Publishing, LLC has announced the promotion of Dave Shabaz to Editor and Publisher of the semi-weekly Sulphur Springs News-Telegram, weekly Country World, Down Home East Texas quarterly magazine, ssnewstelegram.com and multiple associated special sections and niche products.

"Dave made the commitment to move here to live and work in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County over a year ago. Since then he has demonstrated the willingness and ability to work hard to provide the best community newspaper possible for readers and advertisers alike," said Mark Henry on behalf of Hopkins County Publishing LLC. "I believe he will always keep the best interests of the communities, institutions and businesses we serve top of mind going forward while continuing to publish an award-winning newspaper and specialty publications."

Shabaz joined the company in December 2019 as advertising director. He is a member of the Sulphur Springs Rotary Club and is involved in the community. He was named general manager of the operation in October of 2020.

"In the thirteen months that I've been here, I've gone from Advertising Director, to General Manager and now Editor and Publisher. 2020 was a crazy year, but it allowed me to really focus and throw myself into my work and I'm proud of what we've accomplished here at the News-Telegram and Country World newspapers," said Shabaz. "Whether I'm selling an ad, taking a new subscription, attending a local meeting, or delivering a paper to someone who missed their paper that day, I just love what I do. I'm excited about 2021 and my goal is to get everyone excited about our newspapers, magazines and website. My door is always open to all the citizens of Hopkins County. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this amazing community."

As Publisher, Shabaz will oversee the entire operations of the News-Telegram, Country World weekly, regional agriculture newspaper as well as the quarterly Down Home East Texas magazine. In addition to the print products Hopkins County Publishing, LLC also publishes the News-Telegram website and social media pages, Country World website and an email newsletter created in the last year.
