Saltillo ISD students are getting a much-needed boost: free school supplies. The Saltillo Parent-Teacher Organization has offered to purchase the district’s remaining required school supplies for the upcoming year according to Saltillo ISD principal Tim Lane.

According to a post by the Saltillo PTO, students from Pre-K to high school only need to buy a limited number of supplies, while the PTO will pick up the rest.

“We were so blessed with a successful 2018 fall carnival and this has allowed us to purchase these for next year,” the PTO said. “We love our kids and teachers.”

According to the National Retail Federation, the cost of school supplies per child in 2019 is approximately $669.28 per child. Saltillo ISD has 247 total students enrolled, according to the 2017 TEA school snapshot, with 68% of students ranking as “economically disadvantaged.”

Saltillo ISD ranks in the top 25 of the 1A Lone Star Cup standings which measures a school’s performance in sanctioned athletic, academic and music championships. Saltillo finished tied for 24th with Blum and Follett.

Saltillo PTO has been active in the school and community, providing s’mores during testing, pallets of water bottles to the volunteer fire department and hosting the fall festival.
