Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday included:

SHERIFF

Friday

10 p.m.: Sulphur Springs Mayor and SSISD officer Norman Sanders arrested a 34-year-old Sulphur Springs man at the Friday night football game at Gerald Prim Stadium for public intoxication, according to reports. After finding the man to allegedly be uncooperative, Sanders said, the man refused to talk to the mayor and tried to walk away, the report read. The man was taken to HCSO without incident and later released, according to records.

12:51 a.m.: A 23-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested for possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds as well as possession of a schedule two controlled substance less than 28 grams. After being pulled over on Interstate 30 near mile marker 128 for allegedly speeding, police reports state DPS trooper Sorley smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and allegedly saw what appeared to be marijuana resting on the center console. A further probable cause search of the vehicle allegedly found approximately 4.2 ounces of marijuana, 2.2 grams of Xanax and an open container, reports read. The man was booked into jail without incident and later released, according to records.

12:59 a.m.: Sheriff ’s deputies completed a transport of a 35-year-old Fort Worth man from Tarrant County Jail for violation of parole burglary of a habitation to HCSO without incident.

10:18 p.m.: A caller wanted to “say thanks to the Sheriff and deputy for saving a life tonight.”

11:31 p.m.: It was determined a structure fire at 368 County Road 1158 was caused by a heater in an attic. The fire was cleared by fire departments at 12:41 a.m. and a special patrol was established at 2:34 a.m.

Saturday

8:24 a.m.: A caller at County Road 1185 in Sulphur Springs reported someone had been following her and spray painted her car. An incident report was generated for vandalism/ criminal mischief.

3:57 p.m.: A caller in the 300 block of Reservoir Street in Sulphur Springs reported sewer problems with dirty water everywhere.

Sunday

10:03 p.m.: Deputies arrested a 31-year-old McKinney man after a traffic stop at mile marker 118 of Interstate 30 for a defective headlamp allegedly found marijuana and ecstasy, according to reports.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 554 non-emergency phone calls, 143 calls for service and 79 emergency calls. For the 72-hour period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, officers issued one citation, filed two offenses and conducted three special patrols, one inmate transports between facilities, two funeral escorts and 24 traffic stops. Ten people were booked into and ten people released from county jail, which held 149 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
