Saturday

10:39 a.m.: A 22-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of Como and Fuller streets on a charge of driving while license invalid. Officer Adrian Pruitt reportedly conducted a records check and discovered the man’s driver’s license was not eligible and the vehicle did not have insurance. Bond was set at $1,000, and the man was released from jail Sunday, according to arrest and jail reports.

4:10 p.m.: A 30-year-old Mount Pleasant woman was arrested at the Sulphur Springs Walmart on charges of theft of property $100-$750 and unlawful carrying of a firearm with a license to carry. Officers were dispatched to the location in reference to a theft. Upon arrival on scene, officers reportedly discovered the woman had a firearm on her person. A records check confirmed she had a license to carry. Loss prevention staff reportedly advised the woman walked past all points of sale with $129.59 worth of merchandise. Her bond was set at $3,000, and she was released from jail Monday, according to arrest and jail reports.

2:02 a.m.: A 61-year-old Mesquite woman was arrested in the 1500 block of East Shannon Road on charges of public intoxication and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. Officers reportedly conducted a welfare check after locating a blue Volkswagen Jetta parked in the middle of a parking lot. The woman reportedly exhibited signs and indicators of intoxication on a substance other than alcohol. Officers reportedly located a burnt marijuana roach clip inside the vehicle, as well as marijuana and other paraphernalia inside the woman’s designer purse. Her bond was set at $1,000, and she remained in custody as of press time, according to arrest and jail reports.

9:16 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of criminal mischief or vandalism at a residence on County Road 4725 in Cumby. A man reported the tires on his vehicle were cut.

10:47 p.m.: A 21-year-old Winnsboro woman was arrested during a traffic stop on State Highway 11 at mile marker 687 on a charge of driving while intoxicated first offense. DPS Trooper Britain Marlow reportedly stopped a black Ford F-150 for speeding, going 82 miles per hour in a 75-mph zone. Marlow reportedly observed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the woman, who reportedly admitted to having one glass of wine prior to the traffic stop. Marlow reportedly administered standard field sobriety tests and the woman was found to be intoxicated. She reportedly voluntarily gave two breath specimens, which registered .091 and .102. Bond was set at $1,000, and she was released from jail Sunday, according to arrest and jail reports.

12:49 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a residence on County Road 4772 in North Hopkins. A caller reported his father was intoxicated and was attempting to shoot other people in the house with a .45.

12:51 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a residence on State Highway 11 east. A woman reported her husband had pushed her down and she thought she might have a torn muscle. She advised there were weapons in the house.

6:06 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of burglary of a residence on FM 269 south in Pickton. A caller reported a neighbor was attempting to take a door off its hinges.

10:07 a.m.: Denver Jacques Fender, 38, of Sulphur Springs was arrested on County Road 2319 on a charge of possession of 4 ounces to 5 pounds of marijuana. Deputies received a report of a suspicious person whose vehicle broke down at the location. Upon arrival, deputies located Fender walking. Deputy Brantley reportedly observed Fender discard an object in the grass, which turned out to be a marijuana roach. A probable cause search of a black bag Fender was carrying revealed two glass jars containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Fender’s bond was set at $5,000, and he remained in custody Monday, according to arrest and jail reports.

8:11 p.m.: A 61-year-old Cooper woman was arrested at the North Hopkins ISD baseball field on a charge of public intoxication. Deputy Zach Horne responded to the location in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked on the field. Horne reportedly observed the woman standing beside the vehicle. She reportedly stated she did not known how she got there and thought it was Thursday, not Sunday. She reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication and methamphetamine use and reportedly stated she had recently used methamphetamine. She was believed to be a danger to herself and others and was taken into custody. She remained in jail Monday, according to arrest and jail reports.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 382 non-emergency phone calls, 96 calls for service and 55 emergency calls. For the period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday, officers issued three citations and conducted three funeral escorts, one special patrol and 18 traffic stops. Thirteen people were booked into and 11 released from county jail, which held 147 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
