Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday included:

 

POLICE

Sunday

1:06 a.m.: A 43-year-old Como woman was arrested during a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Tennessee Street on a Cass County bond forfeiture warrant for theft by check greater than $20 but less than $500. She was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. A driver’s license check revealed the active warrant, and the woman was taken into custody. Bond was set at $1,000, jail and arrest reports read.

6:47 p.m.: An 18-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at his residence on a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member. Officers responded to the location in reference to a physical disturbance. They located the man inside the residence. After investigation, they reportedly determined the man had intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury to a family member. The man reportedly struck the family member multiple times with a closed fist. Officers reportedly observed multiple red marks and abrasions on the family member’s face and chest. Officers determined the man was the aggressor in the physical altercation and took him into custody, arrest reports read.

1:41 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a residence on State Highway 11 west. A caller reported someone was arguing over property.

4:15 p.m.: A 35-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was arrested during a traffic stop on State Loop 301 on Hopkins County warrants for open container in a motor vehicle-driver and no driver’s license when unlicensed-not CDL. DPS Trooper Rebekah Saathoff reportedly stopped the woman driving a white Mazda pickup for not wearing a seatbelt. The woman had valid insurance but no driver’s license. Saathoff reportedly observed an open container of alcohol in the floorboard in plain view. The woman was reportedly asked to hand the beer to the trooper who observed it was still cold and was approximately a quarter empty. The woman reportedly stated it was not hers. She was run through communications, found to have warrants and was taken into custody, arrest reports read.

5:23 p.m.: A 52-year-old Grand Prairie man was arrested during a traffic stop on State Highway 11 east at FM 269 south on Hopkins County warrants for disregarded no passing zone, following too closely and disregarded traffic control device. The man was reportedly stopped for travelling above the posted speed limit. A records check revealed the man had active warrants, and he was taken into custody, arrest reports read.

6:31 p.m.: A 35-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested at a Sulphur Springs apartment complex after reportedly leaving the area of a disturbance. The man was reported to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office for being in the area without his ankle monitor. He was stopped and found to be wanted for a parole violation. He was taken into custody and reportedly admitted to cutting off his ankle monitor, arrest reports read.

7:15 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a residence on County Road 3311. A caller reported a woman and her granddaughter were having a verbal disturbance.

11 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a noise disturbance on State Highway 19 South. A caller reported a neighbor came to his house screaming to turn the music down. A related call from a different caller stating neighbors were playing music too loud came in at 11:13 p.m.

Sunday

12:23 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity at a business on Interstate 30 west. A man reported he was dropping off a work vehicle and found the gate open which was suspicious.

1:30 a.m.: A 27-year-old Brashear man was arrested at a business on State Highway 71 east on a charge of public intoxication. The man was reportedly asked several times to leave the location by Investigator Wade Sheets who was there working security. The man did not comply with the officer’s orders. Sheets reportedly determined the man to be intoxicated. Deputy Aaron Chaney arrived on scene to assist. Chaney reportedly made contact with the man and was able to detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person. While speaking with the man, Chaney reportedly observed him to have slurred speech and had trouble remembering prior events. It was determined the man was not able to drive himself home and would be a danger to himself and others. He was taken into custody, arrest reports read.

1:44 a.m.: A 22-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop on Farm Road 71 east at State Highway 19 north on a charge of no driver’s license. The man was reportedly stopped for a traffic violation. A records check revealed he did not have a driver’s license, and he was taken into custody, arrest reports read.

4:55 p.m.: A 28-year-old woman from Bryan, Ark. was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 134 on a charge of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. DPS Trooper Rebekah Saathoff reportedly stopped a black Lexus SUV for an obscured paper tag.

As the trooper approached the vehicle on the passenger side, the woman rolled down the window, and the trooper reportedly detected the odor of marijuana. The trooper asked the woman to step out of the vehicle to continue the interview and advised the woman that she could smell marijuana. A probable cause search was conducted, and marijuana was found, arrest reports read.

6:28 p.m.: A 48-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop on State Highway 11 at mile post 658 on warrants for driving while license invalid with previous convictions. It was found during the traffic stop that the man’s license was suspended and he had a previous conviction, arrest reports read.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 325 non-emergency phone calls, 66 calls for service and 36 emergency calls. For the 48-hour period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday, officers issued six citations and conducted one funeral escort and 24 traffic stops.

Twenty-nine people were booked into and 11 people released from county jail which held 175 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
