Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Wednesday included:

POLICE

Tuesday

10:34 a.m.: A 45-year-old Cumby woman was arrested at the Sulphur Springs Police Department on warrants for expired operator’s license and child age 8-14 not secured by safety belt. The woman had reportedly used her sister’s name on two different traffic stops. Communications advised she had two active warrants. She remained in jail as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

1:56 p.m.: A 45-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at the Sulphur Springs Walmart on a charge of theft of property under $100 with previous convictions. Officers were dispatched to the store in reference to a theft. The man was identified as having allegedly stolen items valued at less than $100 from the store, passing all points of sale. He was found to have a previous conviction for theft. Bond was set at $1,000, and he remained in jail as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

Monday

2:15 p.m.: A 20-year-old Winnsboro man was arrested during a DPS traffic stop on FM 1870 on a charge of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. He was a passenger in a vehicle reportedly stopped for speeding, going 62 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone. While speaking with the driver, the trooper reportedly detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He reportedly told the vehicle’s occupants he could smell it, and the passenger allegedly claimed ownership and use of the marijuana. His bond was set at $1,000, and he was released from jail Tuesday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

5:55 p.m.: A caller reported that someone shoots a gun every night around 9 p.m. on County Road 1100.

Tuesday

8:48 a.m.: A woman reported that an airplane keeps flying too close over her Brashear residence.

9:11 a.m.: Deputies received a report of harassment. A woman reported that a male subject keeps harassing her.

10:06 a.m.: A woman reported someone pulled into her driveway trying to sell rocks on County Road 4575.

11:29 a.m.: Prince Damon Long, 34, of Texarkana was arrested at the intersection of FM 275 and County Road 1142. He was reportedly with a group of alleged gravel scammers. While officers were checking IDs for all the individuals, Long reportedly walked away from the group, went behind a building and jumped into the back of a dump truck. When deputies identified Long, he was found to be wanted out of Arkansas for a parole violation. No bond was set, and he remained in jail as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

5:05 p.m.: A man reported his ex-wife is charging her online purchases to his debit card.

6:35 p.m.: Deputies received a report of a terroristic threat at a Yantis residence. A man reported his mother threatened to shoot him.

9:49 p.m.: A man reported a vehicle keeps speeding by his residence on County Road 2332 in Como while children are sleeping. Deputies established a special patrol.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 412 non-emergency phone calls, 101 calls for service and 50 emergency calls. For the period from 5:30 a.m. Monday to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers issued three citations and conducted three special patrols, one inmate transfer between facilities and 27 traffic stops. Ten people were booked into and six released from county jail, which held 154 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
