Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday included:

POLICE

Saturday

9:33 p.m.: Billy Lenard Baxley, 51, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop in the 100 block of College Street on warrants for possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance and driving while license invalid. Baxley was reportedly stopped for a traffic violation and found to have warrants. Bond on the possession charge was set at $20,000, and he remained in custody as of press time Monday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

Friday

10:32 a.m.: Deputies received a report of fraud/ scam artist/forgery. A woman reported someone took $900 out of her bank account.

11:09 a.m.: Deputies received a report of suspicious activity on County Road 1103. A woman reported a male “laid back” in a gold, four-door sedan.

11:20 a.m.: Deputies received a report of possible cow theft at a property on County Road 2383 in Pickton.

Saturday

12:03 p.m.: Kayleigh Dawn Mills, 29, of Quitman was arrested at the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office after turning herself in on a probation violation warrant for a charge of felony possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Bond was denied, and Mills remained in custody as of press time Monday, according to arrest reports and jail records.

8:31 a.m.: A man reported four duck hunters on his County Road 1159 property without permission. The hunters were cited for criminal trespass.

9:12 a.m.: Deputies received a report of illegal hunting on County Road 2321. A woman reported a man was hunting from a vehicle on the county road.

11:42 a.m.: Deputies received a report of criminal mischief at a residence on FM 275 south in Cumby. A man reported someone cut the leads to his welder.

5:01 p.m.: Deputies received a report of assault or family violence at a County Road 3531 residence. A woman reported a man hit her, pulled her hair and broke her phone. The incident was reportedly captured on home surveillance cameras.

5:36 p.m.: Deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle at a residence on County Road 3385 in Saltillo. A man reported a vehicle with three males inside pulled into his driveway.

Sunday

10:08 a.m.: Deputies received a report of criminal mischief at a Cumby residence. A man reported someone put a bunch of nails in his driveway.

11:40 a.m.: Deputies recovered a brick of marijuana at a residence on State Highway 19 north. A man reportedly found it on the property and called deputies.

11: 45 p.m.: Deputies responded to a noise complaint at a residence on County Road 1174. A neighbor reported loud music.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 493 non-emergency phone calls, 146 calls for service and 78 emergency calls. For the period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday, officers issued five citations, filed one offense and conducted one funeral escort and 39 traffic stops. Sixteen people were booked into and 18 released from county jail, which held 149 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
