Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Friday included:

6:25 a.m.: A 20-year-old Sulphur Springs man turned himself in at the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office on warrants for possession of less than 28 grams of a Penalty Group 3 controlled substance, duty on striking fixture/ highway land and failing to maintain financial responsibility. Bond was set at $3,400, and the man was released later that day, according to reports.

8:55 a.m.: Deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle on County Road 4724 in Cumby. A man reported a vehicle had been stuck on the road since Sunday. The vehicle was impounded.

9:44 a.m.: Deputies received a report of an ATV stolen during the night from a residence on County Road 3532 in Saltillo.

6:49 a.m.: A Yantis man called to speak with an officer regarding drug activity.

1:03 p.m.: Deputies received a report of suspicious activity at a Como convenience store. The caller thought two male subjects were possibly on some kind of drugs.

1:59 p.m.: Deputies received a report of theft or suspected theft at a residence on FM 1567 west. A man reported a toolbox and a trailer with a smoker had been stolen.

2:10: Deputies received a report of fraud, scam artist or forgery. A couple was reportedly scammed out of $61,000.

2:16 p.m.: A 46-year-old man from Aybyrd, Missouri was arrested during a DPS traffic stop on Interstate 30 at mile marker 128 on a charge of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. The man was reportedly stopped for driving in the left lane without passing and operating a vehicle in violation of federal motor vehicle safety standards due to a high-mount brake light. The man reportedly stated there was marijuana inside the driver’s door pocket when asked, and the trooper reportedly located it where the driver had indicated. Bond was set at $1,000, and the man was released Friday, according to arrest and jail reports.

4:52 p.m.: Deputies were contacted by a woman reporting her husband was trying to keep children and possessions from the woman.

5:02 p.m.: A disturbance or family violence was reported at a residence on County Road 3593 in Saltillo. A verbal telephone disturbance was reported, and the caller advised two small children were present. A second call from the location came in at 5:04 p.m., and a male wanted information on how to get his wife out of the house. Hopkins County communications operators answered 554 non-emergency phone calls, 115 calls for service and 69 emergency calls. For the period from 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. Friday, officers filed one offense, issued four citations and conducted two inmate transfers between facilities, one funeral escort and 25 traffic stops. Eleven people were booked into and 11 released from county jail, which held 150 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Friday.
