Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday day included:

POLICE

Friday

11:56 p.m.: Police arrested a 19-year-old Sulphur Springs man in the 200 block of Lee Street when they pulled him over for a routine traffic stop and allegedly smelled a “strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. According to reports, when they asked the man if there was any marijuana in the vehicle, he advised there was, and a consent search confirmed this.

3:32 a.m.: Police arrested a 25-year-old Sulphur Springs man when they stopped him in the 100 block of Church Street for an alleged tint violation and found he had outstanding warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility and no drivers license, according to reports.

10:19 p.m.: Police arrested a 29-year-old Sulphur Springs man and a 37-year-old Sulphur Springs woman after they allegedly did not pay for all of their items at Walmart, according to reports. Police responded to a call by store security, who said they were detaining the man and woman after they had “scanned and paid for some of the items they had selected inside the store in a self checkout line… however, there were several items not scanned and paid for,” reports read. The value of the items not paid for was $106.41, according to reports. The man and woman were each charged with theft between $100 and $750, the report read, while the man was found to have an outstanding warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility. The woman was further charged with parent contributing to truancy first offense, the report read. According to records, both individuals have since been released.

Friday

3:04 p.m.: Deputies arrested a 30-year-old DeSoto woman on Interstate 30 eastbound near mile marker 129, when they pulled her over for alleged speeding and reportedly found a bag with a green leafy substance in it and one rolled marijuana cigarette, according to records.

6:31 p.m.: Deputies arrested a 22-year-old Renden woman on Interstate 30 eastbound near mile marker 129 when they allegedly pulled her over for an expired and obscured license plate and found she had an active warrant for theft of less than $2,500 two or more previous convictions out of Gregg County, according to reports.

Saturday

2:30 p.m.: Deputies performed a routine traffic stop at the corner of Bill Bradford Road and Como Street and arrested the driver, a 38-year-old Killeen woman, who had an active warrant out of Smith County for violation of parole failure to maintain financial responsibility child support, according to reports.

4:12 p.m.: Cumby police performed a routine traffic stop on Interstate 30 eastbound near mile marker 114 and arrested the driver, a 35-year-old Grand Prairie man, who had an active warrant out of Tarrant County for possession of a schedule one controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams, according to reports.

6:13 p.m.: Deputies executed a warrant at a home in the 1100 block of Georgia Street for a 31-year-old Sulphur Springs woman who had outstanding warrants for driving without a license and failure to maintain financial responsibility, according to reports.

Sunday

8:04 a.m.: On Interstate 30 westbound a nephew reportedly broke into the caller’s shop and was making a pad for him to sleep on. A criminal trespass was issued.

9:44 p.m.: In a call transferred from SSPD, the caller stated that her husband called and stated he was held at gunpoint and hit with a gun. An offense was filed for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 631 non-emergency phone calls, 136 calls for service and 64 emergency calls. For the 48-hour period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, officers issued four citations and conducted two inmate transport between facilities, nine special patrols and 89 traffic stops. Thirty-five people were booked into and 39 released from county jail, which held 165 inmates at 7 a.m. Monday.
