A woman told police she was tested for COVID-19 but had methamphetamine paraphernalia on her, according to police reports.

At approximately 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from Hunt County law enforcement that a stolen vehicle from Longview was headed their way on Interstate 30, reports said.

Cumby police intercepted the vehicle near mile marker 117, reports said, and found two occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle allegedly smelled of marijuana, and the passenger allegedly stated the vehicle belonged to her mother, reports said. Police attempted to contact the passenger’s mother, but could not, reports said.

The passenger appeared ill, and she allegedly told police she had recently tested for COVID-19, reports said. However, upon a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located a scale with suspected methamphetamine residue on it, reports said. The female passenger also allegedly produced from her bra a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, reports said.

The male driver, Johnnie Roper Sargent, 51, of White Oak, was booked into jail on charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Bail has not been set at this time, according to records.

The female passenger was allowed to leave and will be charged at large, police stated.
