Rickie John Richard, 40, of Duson, Louisiana, was booked in on charges of burglary of a motor vehicle after a report of suspicious activity in the 1000 block of East Shannon Road led police to his location, according to reports.

A caller told SSPD there were possibly two white males breaking into vehicles at 2:01 a.m. early Tuesday morning, and when police arrived they allegedly found one white man sitting in the front seat of a truck, reports said.

Police noted the “truck door handle appeared to be damaged and [the] keyhole was hollowed out as if there was a forced entry… there was two pairs of pliers lying in the front seat where [Richard] was.”

Richard allegedly claimed that the owner of the vehicle had given him permission to inspect the vehicle as it was for sale, but when police contacted the vehicle’s owner, he told them a different story, the report said.

According to police, the owner stated Richard had represented himself as an interested buyer who was a truck driver and “would be passing through Sulphur Springs late at night and did not want to drive to Cumby to look at the vehicle.”

Therefore, the owner said, he parked the vehicle on East Shannon Road so Richard could look at it, but had locked the vehicle and did not give permission for Richard to enter it, police said.

Richard was taken to jail, where he remains on a $2500 bond, according to records.
