Sulphur Springs Police are investigating two cases of animal cruelty and asking for the public’s help with any information.

According to police, the first incident occurred on Aug. 23 in which a cat was found deceased and bound with tape and red shop rags at an address on Live Oak Street.

The second incident occurred on Sept. 2 in which another cat was found deceased, this time bound with fishing line in the roadway near an address in the 1400 block of College Street.

“This was different from most of what we deal with, which is [animals] that have been hit by cars. But this was definitely out of the ordinary,” Animal Control Officer Barbi Blanch told the News-Telegram.

“I’m against any kind of inhumane treatment of animals like that—abuse, especially unnecessary abuse and torture,” Blanch said. “Any kind of abuse, I’m just not for. …It’s hard to determine how much suffering went on.”

According to police, an investigation into the cases is ongoing.

Anyone with information about these offenses is urged to contact SSPD at 903-885-7602 or Crime Stoppers at 903-885-2020.
