Sulphur Springs is known for many things — dairies, glass bathrooms and boutiques, to name a few — and Kenya and Charles Chaffer are trying to add live music to that list.

They opened Chaffer’s Place Academy and Arts in March 2019, and it is becoming a premier venue known for music and fun.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of great rock, country, pop, soul, bluegrass, R&B and jazz music Friday evenings, along with catered concessions and games like spades and dominoes. They also host a tribute show on the third Thursday of each month, featuring the 13-piece house band playing music from the 1920s through the ’90s. Guests are encouraged to dress for their favorite era and come ready to dance.

Don’t miss Chaffer’s Place’s Juneteenth Celebration June 2022 starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 to reserve a table or $10 general admission ($15 at the door).

The three-day celebration will include:

• Thursday is the monthly Third Thursday Tribute Show with a special dinner, featuring rosemary pan-seared chicken breast, garlic mashed potatoes and lemon butter green beans. The meal is included with the ticket price.

• Friday’s event is a gospel concert featuring Fred Thomas, comedian, pastor and world-renowned music producer.

• Saturday’s program will feature live music and a lot of fun.
